OU Football Notebook: Gators ready to avenge Tebow’s defeat

Shortly after losing out on the Heisman Trophy to Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford, Florida quarterback Tim Tebow began receiving motivated text messages from his defensive teammates

"They’re a little bit excited," Tebow said.

Those text messages evolved into spoken words this past week.

"I was pretty mad he didn’t win," Florida linebacker Ryan Stamper told the Palm Beach Post. "That pretty much got me ready to show the country what this defense is all about against a Heisman Trophy winner."

Said Gator cornerback Joe Haden, "Everyone’s talking about their offense, so it’s another challenge for our defense to come out and show how good we are. We feel like Oklahoma is going to have to go through a challenge just like we are, too, because they haven’t played a defense like us."

CONFERENCE COMPARISON
This will be the first meeting between OU and Florida, two of college football’s most storied programs.

The Sooners, however, have had much better success against the SEC than the Gators have had against the Big 12.

OU is 20-8-3 against teams currently in the SEC, holding a losing record only to Ole Miss, which beat the Sooners in the 1999 Independence Bowl in the two teams’ only matchup.

The Gators are 5-6-1 against Big 12 teams, the most recent loss coming in the 1995 national title game.

There, the Gators were thrashed by Nebraska, 62-24.

QUINN RESURFACES
Former Sooner offensive lineman J.D. Quinn was back in the national limelight this past weekend, starting in the Football Championship Subdivision (Division I-AA) national championship Saturday for the Montana Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies, however, lost to Richmond, 24-7.

Quinn, a second-team All-Big Sky Conference selection, was booted from the OU football team in 2006 after being caught accepting payment for work he didn’t do at a Norman car dealership.

BTW tator fan, you need to get over the fact that Bradford won the heisman. Your excuses are almost funny.

Nameless tator fan, here is a stat: the number of tator fans who can't read and write, (it is 'Navy and Notre Dame where good once too' it is were.) And if most people really thought Tebow was better than why is it that Bradford has won AP Player of the Year? BTW how did you get so creative as to make up the heisman voting fraud story? I guess you must practice by making up a lot of stories.

Richard or Dick, which ever you go by, your comment about Bradford, yes he had the stats but lets review the Heisman votes;

1st place votes:
Pretty Boy Pocket Passer - 300
Tebow - 309

How Many Total Votes:
Non-rushing red raider - 811
Tebow - 750

How many cheating, Big 12-loving voters who left Tebow off the ballot so he couldn't win and are now being investigated for Heisman voting fraud: 154

So no, I'm not the only one who thinks he's not the best QB of the season throwing all over horrible denfenses. Again, when was the last time you won a BCS bowl? Hey Navy and Notre Dame where good once too. It will be interesting to see the match, I wish a good fair game, no cheating right? Wink, wink SoonerGoobers

Nameless tator fan. It isn't about who can talk trash. It is about who is about to get their rear ends beat. And that would be your tators.

Gotta love those Gators...they are legends in their own minds. And why not, I think they have won a couple of national championships now and had three Heisman winners! Impressive...oh wait, can't OU claim seven and five? Don't blame the booster who can't remember his name. He suffers from one too many bong hits, which explains his delusional thinking. After thirty-three years in Florida the one thing that I have learned for sure...the only good Gator is the one I turned into a stylish pair of cowboy boots!

Nameless and clueless pro-Florida Trash Talker, your the only one in the USA that thinks Bradford is not any good. I guess that same trophy that Tebow got last year is equally worthless, especially since his team got spanked by Michigan in the Changer Your Oil Bowl. It would also be appreciated if you would keep your incest fantasies out of this forum. And the cowtipping comment? I guess by the "whatever" response you made we can all assume you are clueless about many things, such as OU played and beat TCU, a team notorious for its defense. The SEC is not exactly shutting everyone down this year either. Look at the scores in the scores within your own conference. How many 14-7, 17-7 games do you see (take special note of those games that do not involve South Carolina)?
Richard, Visalia - Dec 22, 2008 at 11:10 pm
Hey there Michelle you "would rahter play Texas anyway", the only team you played with a decent defense, your covered wagon boys would lose again, just like you would lose to any team with half the defense of FL. You're right John, I'm "too ashamed" to leave my name, my sister, whatever, you know you are sleeping with your cousin, I mean it's the Okla way right, what else do you have to do? Cowtipping? Give me a break that was your comeback, you guys really can't trash talk. How about this, what was the last BCS bowl that you won? Go get your lead pipe or whatever clever thing you can come up, this gane will be close until the end of the second quater. Crapford can't throw if he can't stand, Stoops the best asssitant coach ever there buddy. BoomerGoobers, circle the wagons. Go Gators!

I agree, sounds like Florida feels like it has to justify themselves playing in this game. Both have reasons, OU's offense and Florida's defense. I think you should only win the Heisman once anyway. He hasn't done anything special this year.

Florida should be happy! Apparently they are not playing a team worthy of them. Why talk trash then Florida? Unless you're really just scared! Heck...Oklahoma would rather play Texas anyway!!!!!
michelle, Oklahoma City - Dec 22, 2008 at 7:40 pm
Keeping talking your noise Florida. All this tough talk is just you trying t convince yourself you have nothing to worry about when in reality you are seriously nervous. Someone on different string hoped this game would be a classic slugfest. Not me, I want this to be OU crushing Florida, game over at half time type of gig. Practice well OU, and Florida, since you are n the SEC and all I guess you dont really need to practice. So go ahead and relax, afterall you seem to think you have the real heisman qb and your defense will just have to stare at Bradford and he will wilt. Go ahead and read your hype in the press and believe it as the holy truth.
Richard, Visalia - Dec 22, 2008 at 7:36 pm
Teams used to (maybe still do) feel "beat up" after playing a game against OU. Let's extend that legacy against Florida in the NC Game! Boomer! Gut the Gators!

I hope the OU coaches and players are getting wind of all these throwdown comments from the Gator players. If OU shows up big time with their fans and everything, it should make for a very interesting night come Jan 8th. Boomer Sooner!!!

I believe OU's defense will be as tough a group as Florida has faced all year too! Get an attitude OU! Boomer!

Gator idiots haven't faced an offense anywhere near OU's. Nothing even comparible in the SEC.
chris, estherville - Dec 22, 2008 at 4:12 pm
Randy, how are we missing too many starters? One, Demarco Murray, Granger didn't start this year, he was behind Adrian Taylor. OU has plenty to cover for Murray.

Just like a tator fan to post here on an OKC board and then not even leave any kind of "name." The previous poster must be either ashamed of his team, unable to tell his live in girlfriend(sister) what his name his, or is really Tebow coming here to talk trash because he is too afraid to do so on the field in Miami.

gators will win. ou will be missing to many starters. ah-la 2007 fiesta bowl. im depressed.
Randy, Moore - Dec 22, 2008 at 3:54 pm
Thank you nameless Florida fan. Seriously, all the doubters do nothing but help our cause. I sure hope we can somehow hang with the invincible Gators. By the way, nice defense against Michigan last year. I know this isnt last year, but Im waiting until they play an offense to pass judgment.

Wow, that is all you folks have is wah-wah-wah. You trash talk like your team plays defense. Why don't you head out and wrestle your cows or whatever it is you do in that state. Remember Stoops could only be an assistant at FL, and we got a better coach when we asked Stoops to come back and be a head coach. And now you've made our defense mad, not good, not good at all. Do you really think OU could have beaten a team like Alabama?
I like covered wagons.......
I mean really, a covered wagon, yeah.
Go Gators.
It's not going to even be close.

The Gators will kill OU. OU should just not even show up because of how good the QB Tebow is. OU def. can't stop the Gators and the Gator Def. is better than all the def. in the Big 12. Tebow should win the Heisman every year he plays because he is so good. 45-20 FU. Now my next fairy tale is about how bad Coach Stoops is.
Robert, Denver - Dec 22, 2008 at 3:09 pm
The only thing we OU fans forget about the Ole Miss loss. UF fumbled the ball 5 times and lost 3. That is a little bit flukey to me. Especially since UF turns it over about as infrequently as OU has this year.
