OU Football Notebook: Gators ready to avenge Tebow’s defeat
Published: December 22, 2008
Shortly after losing out on the Heisman Trophy to Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford, Florida quarterback Tim Tebow began receiving motivated text messages from his defensive teammates
"They’re a little bit excited," Tebow said. Those text messages evolved into spoken words this past week. "I was pretty mad he didn’t win," Florida linebacker Ryan Stamper told the Palm Beach Post. "That pretty much got me ready to show the country what this defense is all about against a Heisman Trophy winner." Said Gator cornerback Joe Haden, "Everyone’s talking about their offense, so it’s another challenge for our defense to come out and show how good we are. We feel like Oklahoma is going to have to go through a challenge just like we are, too, because they haven’t played a defense like us."CONFERENCE COMPARISON
This will be the first meeting between OU and Florida, two of college football’s most storied programs.
The Sooners, however, have had much better success against the SEC than the Gators have had against the Big 12.
OU is 20-8-3 against teams currently in the SEC, holding a losing record only to Ole Miss, which beat the Sooners in the 1999 Independence Bowl in the two teams’ only matchup.
The Gators are 5-6-1 against Big 12 teams, the most recent loss coming in the 1995 national title game.
There, the Gators were thrashed by Nebraska, 62-24.
QUINN RESURFACES
Former Sooner offensive lineman J.D. Quinn was back in the national limelight this past weekend, starting in the Football Championship Subdivision (Division I-AA) national championship Saturday for the Montana Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies, however, lost to Richmond, 24-7.
Quinn, a second-team All-Big Sky Conference selection, was booted from the OU football team in 2006 after being caught accepting payment for work he didn’t do at a Norman car dealership.

Hey Navy and Notre Dame where good once too. It will be interesting to see the match, I wish a good fair game, no cheating right? Wink, wink SoonerGoobers
