OU football notebook: Offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson extremely high on offensive lineman Trent Williams

Cameron Kenney, Jaz Reynolds ahead of the curve

Sophomores Dejuan Miller and Jameel Owens may have a year up of experience on junior-college transfer Cameron Kenney and true freshman Jaz Reynolds.

But if offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson had to fill out his opening day depth chart today, Kenney and Reynolds would be ahead of Miller and Owens at wide receiver.

"Jaz Reynolds and Cameron Kenney have made more plays than those guys in seven-on-seven and one-on-one drills," Wilson said. "That's just (wide receivers coach Jay Norvell) charting how many catches that you get.

"One guy has 30 catches and one guy has eight. So who are you going to play?"

Wilson pointed out that where Kenney and Reynolds especially have an edge on Miller and Owens is speed.

"In short term (Kenney and Reynolds) have shown some real speed, real explosion and they have done well short term and that is exciting," Wilson said. "Those two guys have complemented the old guys and the competition with the second team has picked up and that is what we needed."

The best around

Last Friday, Wilson heaped high praise on starting left tackle Trent Williams.

"The best lineman that I've had since I've been here — and I did have two former players (Jammal Brown and Davin Joseph) who played in the Pro Bowl last year that were first-round picks — is No. 71," Wilson said of Williams. "It's not close."
