“Next man in,” said defensive coordinator Brent Venables. “Ronnell's a terrific player. He's got a physical presence and play-making ability that's hard to duplicate. Other guys have got to step up and play better -- and be sound. No one's got to be Superman, ever. Guys just need to stay within the system and execute.”

Harris on the spot

Junior free safety Javon Harris, burned repeatedly in a 45-38 loss at Baylor, practiced on Monday and will play Saturday against Iowa State after suffering an ankle injury in the second half.

“There is nothing you can do about what happened,” said strong safety Aaron Colvin. “You have to be ready to come out this next game and prove yourself, knowing other teams are licking chops to (attack) you after seeing it on film.

“But he's a great player. He just had one bad game... Defensive back is such a hard position. If you're off one game, one play, it can go for a touchdown. Honestly, I feel defensive back is one of the hardest positions. If you're off your game you're going to get exploited.”

Reynolds should play

Wide receiver Jaz Reynolds suffered a shoulder injury at Baylor but returned to play with pain.

“All the X-rays checked out OK, just sore,” Stoops said. “It shouldn't limit him. He should be able to practice at some point shortly.”

A look back at Baylor

One constant question after Monday's practice, held indoors due to heavy rain, was how much of Baylor's 616 yards, the most allowed in the Bob Stoops era, was due to poor defensive technique and how much credit should be given Baylor's explosive offense.
