The challenge is to keep Kinne in the pocket.
"He stresses everybody," Venables said. "The stress starts with those guys up front. They line up four, sometimes five (receivers). You like to keep people back in coverage. You take your chances in pressure. But when you pressure you have to have good containment."
KICKOFF RETURNS PRIMARILY BACKS
Running backs Dominique Whaley, Roy Finch, Brandon Williams and Jonathan Miller will handle kickoff returns. The only wide receiver in the mix is Trey Franks.
“I prefer not to use many receivers,” Stoops said. “I guess I get spooked all the way back to Manny Johnson when he got taken out against (Texas) Tech. Those receivers sometimes aren't quite as thick as those backs are.”
STOOPS ENDORSES ADDING IRISH
If given a choice, Stoops would prefer a 12-team league with a conference title game regardless of whether Texas A&M leaves for the SEC. And Stoops would love to see the Big 12 add Notre Dame.
“We have to play them next year anyway,” Stoops said. “It might as well be in conference. Maybe that's the invitation they're waiting on.”
Stoops said offensive tackle Jarvis Jones, who suffered a major knee injury last spring, is ahead of schedule, but it's uncertain when he might return ... Asked his thoughts on the Longhorn Network, Stoops quipped: “There's a rumor the Longhorn Network is going to carry my coaches' show.” On a more serious note, Stoops is puzzled why the LHN was told it can't show high school games but can now show highlights. “They got a good deal there. They take out the boring parts of the game and just put in the good parts,” Stoops said.
