Forgive Sooners coach Bob Stoops if the penalties all started to run together. Oklahoma was penalized 13 times for 97 yards against Baylor.

That was the most flags against the Sooners since they were penalized 13 times for 113 yards against Cincinnati in 2010.

“Defensively, we have a stop on third down and have them backed up, then we line up offsides,” Stoops said. “We had two of those that led to scores, where we have a stop on third down and we line up offsides and give them another shot at it, and it gives them two touchdowns.”

The Sooners were flagged for a pair of third-down penalties but only one led to a score.

The first was on the first drive, when Charles Tapper was called for offsides on a third-and-8 play that resulted in an incompletion.

After picking up the first down on the next play, the Bears wound up punting.

Late in the second quarter, Eric Striker was called for an offsides on a third-and-9 incompletion and Baylor once again converted.

Baylor went on to score a touchdown on the play.

“In my mind, lining up offsides is a player's responsibility,” Stoops said. “That isn't something you ought to have to coach. You line up on the right side of the football, not on the football.”
