Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops was asked again Tuesday to explain his decision to go for the two-point conversion down nine with six minutes left, when conventional wisdom suggests taking the extra point in that situation.

"I felt at the time you have to have it," Stoops said during his weekly press conference. "If you miss it late or you miss it then, either way, you're not going to win. I felt maybe you get them not quite on point where you're still have a little comfort zone as opposed to the end of the game where they know they have to have. In the end, I felt 'Go for it now' because you have the opportunity to get it within seven.

"We had the play drawn and it was the play we were going to run whether it was later or then. When it doesn't work, that's when you shouldn't have done it."

Stoops admitted the two-point conversion chart many college and NFL coaches advises to go for the extra point there.

"I get that, but in the end, if you don't make it, you're not going to win," Stoops said. "You still have to do something different. The other thing is, time wise, if you wait till the end of the game and you do it and get the same result, you have no chance to do anything different.

"I get it. In the end, it's not what the book says, but you're in a bad situation at the point. You know, the ball hit Kenny (Stills) in the shoulder and he has great hands and Ryan (Broyles) is within an inch of the deflection. It just didn't work out.

BROYLES' ANKLE IMPROVING

Last week, Broyles wasn't able to practice until Thursday because of a bum ankle, and had to sit a few plays out at Missouri getting the ankle re-taped.

Offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson said Broyles is back at practice this week and Stoops said Broyles is doing better.

"The good part was Sunday and Monday he was no different than going into the game," Stoops said. "You would hope as this week goes he'll feel a little better by this weekend. And playing on grass I think you don't have the sudden stops you do on that artificial surface. Hopefully he's a little better this week."

Despite the gimpy ankle, Broyles hauled in eight passes for 110 yards against Missouri. He leads the nation averaging 9.86 receptions a game.
