OU football: OU's recruiting class ranks No. 29 in the country by Rivals

That's far off the lofty classes that coach Bob Stoops have regularly put together during his time in Norman, but there are a few prospects in the 17 current commits that give the Sooners hope for the future.

As of Thursday night, the recruiting class Oklahoma has put together ranked No. 29 in the country by Rivals.

That's far off the lofty classes that Bob Stoops has regularly put together during his time in Norman, but there are a few prospects in the 17 current OU commits that give the Sooners hope for the near future:

Samaje Perine

Running back, 6-0, 213, Pflugerville (Texas) Hendrickson

A powerful runner with 4.4 speed, Perine could contribute quickly in the backfield. The Sooners lose Brennan Clay and Roy Finch and have already lost Damien Williams, so there could be playing time available as soon as next year.

Justice Hansen

Quarterback, 6-3, 200, Edmond Santa Fe

Hansen's senior season was marred by injury, but he's still on track to graduate early and enroll in January. It seems unlikely that he could earn the starting job immediately with Trevor Knight looking like the likely starter moving forward, but the system the Sooners are running with the zone-read and read-option packages plays to Hansen's strengths nicely.

Jeffery Mead and Dallis Todd
