OU football players 'won't give an inch' on QB competition in Norman
The Oklahoman’s Stephanie Kuzydym took questions from readers in today’s OU Power Lunch Chat. You can join our Power Lunch Chats Monday-Friday at 11 a.m. on NewsOK.com/Sports. Here’s a look at today’s Q&A.
ON OKLAHOMA FOOTBALL:
What do the OU football players have to say about the QB competition? Has anyone taken a commanding lead?
They won't give an inch on who has taken a commanding lead or not. Nobody will. They're under strict orders not to say much about it so they give pretty vague answers. Sterling Shepard said he doesn't even pay attention to who the ball is coming from unless it’s a certain route and he can tell it's coming from "the left-hander" as everyone liked to say yesterday. So all they will really say about it is that it will be announced when the time comes. Even when they were asked if the media makes too big a deal about it, they gave a vague answer. That's how Bob wants it.
Will the linebackers improve under Kish?
I think no matter what, the linebackers are going to be better. They are going to be focused on. Mike Stoops stressed that last year one person looked over too many people.
Do you think that Tim Kish is on a short leash?
I think if he was, he would have gone when Stoops was making changes. Is it shorter than the new guys’? Maybe. But if Stoops had major problems with him, I don't see why he wouldn't have cleaned the defensive house more and included Kish.
Coach Kish said that he only has 6 LB to work with. He didn't include P.L. Lindley or Rashard Favors. Will these players no longer be playing LB?
Lindley is listed as a defensive end — as is Favors. So it looks like those will fall to Jerry Montgomery.
Are you covering recruiting? If so, do recruits have a different vibe with the new coaches?
