OU football: Police release 911 call in alleged Joe Mixon assault investigation

by Ryan Aber Published: July 29, 2014

— In a three-minute call to 911, a Pickleman’s Gourmet Cafe employee described the early Friday incident that has Oklahoma freshman football player Joe Mixon under investigation for alleged assault.

“Some girl just got clocked in the face,” the caller said after giving the location and address for the sandwich shop.

Mixon claims through his attorney that he acted in self-defense.

The unidentified caller first says the woman who was hit — identified elsewhere as 20-year-old Amelia Rae Molitor — had “stormed off” after the incident before saying she was still in the restaurant.

“She’s in the bathroom but I’m standing right here,” the caller said.

The caller doesn’t identify a possible assailant during the call, which came in around 2:30 a.m. Friday morning and was released to The Oklahoman Tuesday morning by Norman Police.

“I did not see the guy myself,” the caller said. “I was in the back when it happened. A few people did see what happened that are still here.”

The restaurant stays open until 3 a.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 2 a.m. the rest of the week.

Norman Police issued a news release Monday afternoon confirming Mixon was an “involved party” in the investigation.

No one has yet been charged in the incident.

His attorney, Kevin Finlay, had previously confirmed that Mixon, 18, was under investigation for possible assault.

Mixon met with investigators Monday and Finlay released a statement afterward saying Mixon was being “forthcoming and cooperative” with the ongoing investigation.
