Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said Monday that junior quarterback Blake Bell will start the Sooners' game Saturday vs. Tulsa and that redshirt freshman Kendall Thompson will be Bell's backup.

Bell replaced Trevor Knight as the Sooners' quarterback in the second half of their win over West Virginia. Knight, who had been largely ineffective, suffered a knee injury late in the first half.

Stoops said Knight’s injury occurred just before halftime, when he ran up the middle toward the end zone and sustained a hit to his leg.

Knight continued to play in the third quarter, but didn’t record any rushing attempts and threw two interceptions in West Virginia territory.

“I’m sure it did affect him to some degree,” Stoops said of the knee injury. “I’m sure it bothered him.”

OU coaches replaced Knight with Bell to start the fourth quarter. Stoops said the decision was made because of both the injury and Knight’s performance.

Speaking to the media at his weekly press conference, Stoops said Thompson would be Bell's backup on Saturday.

Thompson was expected to pracitce Monday for the first time in several weeks after suffering a foot injury early in fall camp.

The Oklahoman's Ryan Aber and Jason Kersey provided live coverage during Stoops' press conference on Monday. Here is a look at what else Stoops had to say:
