Ahmad Thomas believes a winning tradition and his character make the Oklahoma football program a good fit for him.

In an interview with Alex King of SoonerScoop.com, Thomas explained why he chose Oklahoma.

"I like the fact that they like to win," Thomas said. "Not only do they like good athletes but they like athletes with good character who do their work. They don't want bad kids and I think I am one of those (good character) kids."

A three-star prospect from high school football powerhouse Miami (Fla.) Central, Thomas is used to winning.

During his senior season, Miami Central won its' second Florida Class 6A state championship in three years.

With the Sooners' starting safeties from last season—Javon Harris and Tony Jefferson— gone, Thomas is expected to compete for playing time during his freshman season.

Thomas graduated high school in December and is an early enrollee at Oklahoma. He will have an opportunity to go through spring practice and learn the defense before fall camp.

Rivals rates Thomas as the No. 37 safety in the nation. He competed in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl on Jan. 4 in Los Angeles, and verbally committed to Oklahoma last May.
