Norman North linebacker Jordan Evans grew up wanting to play football at the University of Oklahoma, following in his father’s footsteps.

The Sooners offer and Evans’ commitment came in rapid succession in late November.

Wednesday, Evans made it official, signing with the Sooners during a ceremony at Norman North.

“I’ve got a big smile on my face right now,” Evans said. “I’m really excited that I have the chance to sign with OU.”

A year ago, Evans wasn’t sure it would be a possibility.

He was getting recruiting interest from schools like the service academies and Ohio but hadn’t drawn big-time Division I interest, especially from a place like OU.

“It was a dream but it was a dream that I was willing to reach,” Evans said. “I was willing to work as hard as I could to get that dream.”

Evans turned in a monster senior season, with 94 tackles and nine sacks on defense and 10 touchdowns on offense and special teams. He helped the Timberwolves to the Class 6A state title game before falling to Jenks.

Evans’ mother breathed a sigh of relief when he received interest from the Sooners and then decided to sign with OU.

During the recruiting process, Tenika was talking to her son about where he wanted to go and Oregon came up in the conversation.

“I made the comment that Oregon was too far and he said, ‘Mom, it’s my decision,’” Tenika Evans said. “When he said that, I had to let him decide.”
