OU football report card: Sooners' run defense gets low marks

RUN DEFENSE: D

Cincy tailback Isaiah Pead ran for 169 yards on 21 carries. Can't write that off to the Air Force option. Poor tackling was partly to blame, but so was scheming. UC outfoxed the Sooners with a series of inside sweeps.

COACHING POISE: D

Assistant coach Jay Norvell got a 15-yard penalty after arguing for a spearing call against UC. How can a staff demand poise from players when it doesn't display poise itself?

PLAYERS POISE: B

Too many penalties (12 for 98 yards, not counting Norvell's), but the Sooners played tough when it counted.

SETTING: A

Paul Brown Stadium is gorgeous, downtown Cincinnati was hopping with fans of both schools and the locale — hard by the Ohio River — made for a pristine Saturday.

RYAN BROYLES SIDEKICKS: B

Kenny Stills made two excellent catches. Dejuan Miller made a nice, 37-yard grab. Freshman Trey Franks had two catches and two nice reverse runs. Only Cameron Kenney's end-zone drop prevented a splendid night.

POOCH PUNTS: B

OU misplayed two Tress Way punts inside the 10-yard line into touchbacks, but with the game on the line, James Hanna recovered D.J. Woods' muffed punt at the Cincinnati 7-yard line.
