Contrary to Internet rumors, five-star recruit Trey Metoyer still plans to play football at Oklahoma next fall.

Metoyer is enrolled in summer classes at Tyler Junior College in an attempt to qualify academically to play at OU.

Danny Palmer, the head football coach at Tyler Junior College, said Metoyer is taking two classes, but has not signed a national letter of intent to play there.

“Metoyer is enrolled in classes up here to get his grade point average up,” Palmer said. “He is working out here, which is fine with us. There are no rules with him not working out here because he is not on scholarship here.”

Metoyer's father, David, reiterated the statement by Palmer. Asked if his son still had plans of playing at Oklahoma next year, Metoyer's father gave a quick answer.

“Absolutely,” he said.

A wideout from Whitehouse High School in Texas, Metoyer is widely considered the top recruit in a strong 2011.

During his senior season at Whitehouse, Metoyer had 107 receptions for 1,539 yards and 23 touchdowns.

He would provide a boost to the Sooners already stacked receiving corps, which includes All-American Ryan Broyles and Kenny Stills.

If he can't qualify, Metoyer would have to play in the juco ranks next season, with Tyler as the most likely destination.

But if he does arrive in Norman, it would mark the first time the Sooners have landed a five-star wide receiver since Rivals began utilizing that grading system.
