University of Tennessee head coach Butch Jones announced Thursday that Justin Worley is the Volunteers starting quarterback.
JONES: @WorleyBird_14 has been a leader, he's been very vocal. When you manage the football, it's a matter of seconds. He's managed that.— Tennessee Football (@Vol_Football) August 14, 2014
Whether Worley will be the starter when Tennessee comes to Norman to face the Sooners on Sept. 13 is another question. Worley battled consistency and injury as a junior and didn’t appear in Tennessee’s final four games.
Worley, a 6-foot-4, 224-pound senior, led the Vols in passing in 2013 with 1,239 yards, 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He completed 55.6 percent of his passes (109-of-196). He hails from Rock Hill, S.C., and attended the same high school as Oklahoma State freshman quarterback Mason Rudolph.
The Sooners and Volunteers begin their home-and-home series this season, with OU traveling to Knoxville in 2015.
