Tennessee's task against OU just got a little tougher.
Tennessee coach Butch Jones announced at his weekly press conference on Tuesday that senior starting left tackle Jacob Gilliam had suffered a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the 2014 season.
Two weeks away from playing Oklahoma in Norman, the injury to Gilliam can't be good for a Tennessee team already lacking depth up front. The Volunteers entered the season with new starters at every position on their offensive and defensive lines.
"I feel for Jacob because he earned the respect of his peers and has worked so hard for the tackle position," Jones said. "This will serve him later on when dealing with adversity. I love him, I love his family and everything he stands for."
Tennessee opened the season with a 38-7 win over Utah State. The Vols host Arkansas State on Saturday before facing OU on Sept. 13.
