OU football: What they're saying about Sooners' loss to Texas

by Jason Kersey Published: October 12, 2013

Texas snapped Oklahoma's three-year Red River Rivalry winning streak with a 36-20 victory Saturday inside the Cotton Bowl.

Here's a look at what coaches and players had to say after the game:

OU co-offensive coordinator Josh Heupel, on what Blake Bell needs to do to improve:

“There's no magical pill you're gonna take to correct it. You just go back to work.”

Texas senior defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat, asked if he sensed any overconfidence from OU?

“I don't know. I don't know. They came out hard. They always do. It's a rivalry game. You know they're gonna be ready for it.”

OU senior center Gabe Ikard, on the loss:

“Our whole thing this week was to give them our best shot and there's no way we did that today. We made way too many mistakes, gave them points. It was very uncharacteristic for us.”

OU sophomore linebacker Eric Striker, on the Sooners' inability to finish:

“We talk about winning the fourth quarter, and we didn't finish like we were supposed to do. They did. They finished. The better team finished.”

OU defensive coordinator Mike Stoops, on Texas:

“I thought they were much better than they were last year, that's for sure. Their plan was excellent. Their execution was excellent. They did the right things to give themselves opportunities to move the football. When you can execute that well on third down, that tells you they were well-prepared. They beat us pretty handily throughout the course of the game. They're to be commended for it.”
