Missed field goals had cost the Sooners in all four of their losses.
But in the first half, walk-on Patrick O'Hara drilled field goals of 22 and 47 yards to put OU up 6-3 in his first career start.
"It looked like it was going to be a field goal battle," said O'Hara, who made his debut last weekend in the second half against Texas A&M. "That would have been great."
But that wasn't to be.
Texas Tech shut down the Sooner offense, and O'Hara didn't get back on the field until he kicked an extra point with 7:30 left in the game.
Still, the Sooners can take solace in O'Hara's performance, which should end a yearlong competition at place-kicker between him, Jimmy Stevens and Tress Way.
O'Hara's 47-yarder was the longest by a Sooner since Garrett Hartley converted a 53-yarder in September 2007.
"I felt real confident," O'Hara said. "Nailed them here today. Right through the middle."
