OU baseball coach Sunny Golloway found himself consoling Caleb Bushyhead and Cameron Seitzer and others after the Sooners' dramatic elimination-game loss in the College World Series Thursday night at Rosenblatt Stadium.

Immediately, however, Golloway told his players to focus on all the good memories they made in OU's first return to Omaha in 15 years.

"The first thing I said to them was, 'Hey, remember Virginia. Remember that feeling at Virginia,'” Golloway said. "'Remember winning that game and knowing that you qualified, after a 15-year drought for the University of Oklahoma.'

"I said, 'Remember that feeling. The sting of tonight will go away. You're going to remember this. We're going to remember the lightning in the background. We're going to remember the warm welcome. We're gong to remember the opening ceremony. We're going to remember the good things. This will fade. It does.'”

DUELING ARMS
OU pitcher Zach Neal said he was well-rested and more than ready.

And he was.

South Carolina's Blake Cooper, working on short rest and making his second start in five days against the Sooners, was ready, too. Same for a cast of relievers from both sides Thursday night, when a rare elimination-game pitcher's duel broke out at Rosenblatt Stadium.

Neal, who hadn't pitched since June 13, went seven strong innings, scattering five hits and striking out seven.

"He was terrific,” Golloway said.
