OU notebook: Tweets offer hints, but Stoops is mum on Stills' status

Sooners coach Bob Stoops chose not to reveal his status.

STILL WAITING ON RONNELL

Despite those player updates, there was nothing new from Stoops on defensive end Ronnell Lewis' eligibility.

“When I know something definitive, I'll say it,” Stoops said.

Lewis did miss practice Monday because of a friend's funeral. He took reps last week with the first-team defense, and he was listed on Monday's depth chart as the starter.

JEFFERSON'S A GO

When Stills was arrested, linebacker Tony Jefferson was hit with a charge for interfering with an arrest. Some presumed late last week, on Twitter, that meant Jefferson would also be suspended for the opener.

Jefferson fired back that he would play.

“That made me mad. I was like, ‘Why would you say that?'” Jefferson said Monday. “I don't know where that came from. Everybody kept saying I was suspended for a game, but I'm not.”

KICKOFF SHOWDOWN

Don't presume Patrick O'Hara has the kickoff job nailed down just yet. Stoops threw the door open Monday for redshirt freshman Michael Hunnicutt.

“He's hit them a lot better during camp,” Stoops said. “He's on board, ready to go, too.”

BRADFORD STATUE GOES UP WEDNESDAY, MINUS BRADFORD

Former OU quarterback Sam Bradford will have his statue erected sometime during the day Wednesday, the school said. Bradford, busy with the St. Louis Rams, will not be able to make it back for a ceremony until a later date. Bradford's statue will join the school's other four Heisman winners on the east side of Memorial Stadium.
