OU quarterback Landry Jones to start against Miami

NORMAN — Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford labored all week in practice with hopes of playing Saturday at No. 17 Miami.

Instead, the Sooners will allow Bradford’s injured throwing shoulder to rest at least another week and start redshirt freshman Landry Jones for a third straight game.

"Watching practices through the week and where Sam has progressed to, we just feel it’s the right thing to do,” coach Bob Stoops said Thursday during an interview with ESPN. "He’s just not quite where he feels comfortable enough, or that we feel comfortable enough that he’s totally ready to go.”

Bradford is yet to play since suffering a third-degree shoulder separation during the first half of the season opener against Brigham Young.

But the returning Heisman winner, who did some light throwing last week, returned to practice Monday.

Bradford gradually intensified his throwing regimen and eventually took some snaps with the first-team offense. But he never reached a point during the week where anyone felt he was ready to play.

"Sam was part of the decision,” Stoops said. "He’s a smart guy and understands where he’s at. He’s frustrated because he’s a competitor. He wants to be back. If it was up to him, he (would) be back last week.
