Jenni Carlson - Hurricane Warning

Sep 29Consider this a warning, Sooner Nation. A hurricane warning.

But whether the Heisman winner will play Saturday at Miami is a decision that won't be made until later this week, coach Bob Stoops said Monday night.

"It will be determined on how we go through the week, on how he performs, on how he feels," Stoops said. "To make sure he can make all the throws we need him to make. Until we go through practices, I won't know that."

Stoops pointed out that Bradford "looked good" Monday, but is waiting to see how the shoulder reacts to the strain of throwing more and with greater velocity.

"He seemed to feel fine," Stoops said. "But we'll see once he gets some ice on it, how it feels tomorrow probably matters. It's a gradual build up to the number of throws and how you throw it as you go through the week.

"It's something that's going to take some days here until we know."

Stoops refused to indicate at what point during the week he'd like to reach a verdict on Bradford, but didn't rule out it being a game-time decision.

Bradford was not available for comment after Monday's practice. Neither was redshirt freshman Landry Jones, who has started in place of Bradford at quarterback the last two games.

But several of the other offensive players admitted it was a boost for the team to see Bradford a more active participant in practice than he was last week.

Said left tackle Trent Williams, "To see 14 out there, it was a good feeling."

Said center Ben Habern, "To have him back and running around, it was encouraging."

Stoops pointed out Monday that regardless of who quarterbacks the team Saturday, the game plan will remain the same.

"It's not like one is a scrambling, Wildcat-type of guy and you have a whole different game plan for him," Stoops said.

What will be trickier for the coaching staff this week will be balancing the practice snaps with the two, since at this point, either one could start. Despite playing well in his last two outings, Jones is still growing into the offense. But Bradford has played only a half of football this season and figures to be rusty after a three-week layoff.

"In the end it's just getting each of them the number of snaps to be comfortable," Stoops said, "and to be able to evaluate Sam throughout the week."

Over the weekend, Bradford visited renowned Alabama orthopedic surgeon James Andrews to get an additional opinion on how the shoulder was healing. By all accounts, Andrews was optimistic about Bradford's recovery after evaluating him.

"It was an extra opinion," Stoops said. "Our (doctors) have been awesome in their evaluation. We got multiple opinions and everybody's were pretty similar and our (doctors) were definitely on the right track and doing the right things."

Now, it's just a matter of determining when Bradford will return.

"He's progressing," Stoops said. "All his rehab to this point has been positive.

"But I think we'll know later in the week what Sam's able to handle and where we feel we're at with it."

Its def a sight to see. I just read on ESPN that "Big Game" bob is starting to get pissed about bradford's arm. LOL!
Jason, Tulsa - Sep 30, 2009 at 12:20 pm
Oh I know the kind you're talking about. You have to have big hair to get into their club. I'll never make it. Long & straight & shiny. Not tall & frizzy & fluffy.
Raven, Edmond's Ghetto (Guthrie) - Sep 30, 2009 at 10:33 am
Go to the walk around at OSU for homecomming and look at some of the moms. ...you'll know exactly what I am talking about once you see 'em! :)
Jason, Tulsa - Sep 30, 2009 at 10:29 am
Ha. Not funny. :oÞ I'm a mom and I don't have giant hair.
Raven, Edmond's Ghetto (Guthrie) - Sep 30, 2009 at 10:09 am
The mom-hair mofia is the old alum 'soccer moms' that come back to flaunt their money with their giant mom hair. There are some that sit around me. They are pretty funny though. ha ha! jokes jokes! I was only kidding about taunting you from my seat...I'll just have to do it from the stairs your seat is on! LMAO!!
Jason, Tulsa - Sep 30, 2009 at 10:01 am
Oh I know you did no just call me riff-raff. Who is the mom-hair mafia? I'm willing to make "nice" with an OSU fan. And you're saying no? And you call US the goons? No freaking way. I've partied at OSU. It is a nice place. I have dated a couple Cowboys...way back in the day. Nice guys for the most part. Maybe OSU has the mean fans after all!
Raven, Edmond's Ghetto (Guthrie) - Sep 30, 2009 at 9:38 am
Plus the mom-hair mofia would get pissed!
Jason, Tulsa - Sep 30, 2009 at 9:24 am
A true gentleman doesn't associate with the riff-raff gooner crowd! LMAO! I will be taunting you from my seat!
Jason, Tulsa - Sep 30, 2009 at 9:23 am
Whatever. You have to sit in the visiting section with me. That is the gentlemanly thing to do.
Raven, Edmond's Ghetto (Guthrie) - Sep 30, 2009 at 9:00 am
LMAO!! My bags are already packed! ...FYI there is no red aloud in my seating section at Boone pickens Stadium. :D
Jason, Tulsa - Sep 30, 2009 at 8:53 am
That is the only kind. There is nothing wrong with OSU & OU getting together. Haven't you seen the tags that say "A House Divided". Look at that! I've already got you moving in.
Raven, Edmond's Ghetto (Guthrie) - Sep 30, 2009 at 8:44 am
OSU alum chicka. True orange cowboy fan even when win/lose.
Jason, Tulsa - Sep 30, 2009 at 8:27 am

Raven, Edmond's Ghetto (Guthrie) - Sep 30, 2009 at 8:10 am

They wasted giving the trophy to Bradford because he is like stoops...he can't win the big game. 2-2 saturday.
Jason, Tulsa - Sep 29, 2009 at 8:46 pm
Don't be so sure Dana, this college football season has been nothing but crazy already. I wouldn't be too surprised either way if OU won by 21 or Miami won by 21. It helps Miami that it is at home, but OU had an extra week to prepare and now has a good game tape of how to beat the Canes. I do agree that Bradford shouldn't play, there is no way he is 100% and a bad hit could end his football career.
Travis, OKC - Sep 29, 2009 at 7:13 pm
Bradford shouldn't play. Miami is going to take my beloved Sooners out behind the woodshed, anyway, and there's no reason for him to get a good old fashioned butt whippin' like the rest of the boys. If only there was a decent regional conference around, like the Pac-10, OU might attract better talent, but it appears as though we'll have to write this one off, as we do all the "big" games.

I like giving these sooner fans a hard time on these boards. I am wondering where is the Dez Bryant or Kendal Hunter updates on their injuries? The sooner articles are a dime a dozen.

The country music was a small part of it. ...you had your chance but I found out you were a sooner fan :D-ha ha! jk.
Jason, Tulsa - Sep 29, 2009 at 3:40 pm
Jason - the reason I keep reading the stories is because I'm obsessed with Mr. Bradford. Plus he's cute. And I want him to do well in football & life. I hope his arm is healed and there is no lasting damage.

Sorry about your girlfriend. That'll teach her to make you listen to country music. So it means I still have a chance?
Raven, Edmond's Ghetto (Guthrie) - Sep 29, 2009 at 2:58 pm
yeah, its how many stories written about bradford's arm in the past 24 hours by the daily joke-lahoman.

Jason, Tulsa - Sep 29, 2009 at 1:56 pm
Terry, its hard NOT to follow the sooners in this state because any news update is about bradford's arm. It is just as bas as watching the weather report on the local news during a storm...the whole state shuts down and they make us watch the local weather for 4 hours at a time till the storm passes.
Jason, Tulsa - Sep 29, 2009 at 1:55 pm

I'm disappointed that Miami lost to Virginia Tech but it sure showed Miami is not a great team. Let's hope OU can go ahead quickly and stay ahead! I'm not worried if Landry is our quarterback as our defense will stop Miami and Landry has played great.

Calvin, with your sooner education, wouldn't it be "I guess Jim was turned down." ??? Friggin sooner.
Jason, Tulsa - Sep 29, 2009 at 11:43 am
he does look like a caveman...he should have been in that geiko comercial...but it would play out..."Throwing a football is so easy even Bradford can do it." Then you see him lookin up at a caveman billboard. Friggin marketing right there!!!

You start out with one good comment, then a knucklehead chimes in and everyone follows. Personal insults through blogging/commenting is really cowardly, but whatever gets your rocks off.

Our defense will hopefully ease the pressure of the quarterback and offensive play.

I suppose us Davids think alike. Jenni is looking cute! And, it makes her articles better. The sports writers here are just fine. I have my favorite reads and they are as good as any sports section I have read. Of course, I am pretty much limited to USA Today and the locals in Alabackwards.

The sports writers for the DO are horrible. But since we're here reading this stuff on line at least we're paying them what they're worth. By the way, if it wasn't for the rediculous there would be NO reason for them to put this stuff on line so we can read it for free.

I agree too that the videos are a pain and aren't there for our benefit. Anyone that watches Carlson, or reads her inane comments, or listens to same is supporting the worst newspaper in the country. She knows nothing about sports except what she copies from listening to other reporters.

These videos and the "reporters" involvement on television have made them WORSE "journalists", not better. As far as I can see, the worse thing that ever happened to the sports department was to put these jokers on television.

William...don't know that I would go that far. What in the world would make you think Sam would come back for another year. No offense, but that is crazy.
craig, Oklahoma city - Sep 28, 2009 at 11:31 pm
TERRY----You act like Sam will be doing OU fans a favor by rushing back. What people don't seem to understand is that Sam (WANTS) to come back. You are right in that he owes us nothing. Sam is not greedy. He's not gonna sit back and NOT play. If he's healthy, he wants to and WILL play. It's obvious Sam isn't nearly concerned about the NFL as everyone else is. That's why he came back. And on top of that, I wouldn't be surprised to see Sam back NEXT year as well. Sam shunned the NFL because he loves OU. If he's healthy, he will play. Not for me, you or anyone at OU. But for Sam. Boomer dadgum Sooner.

I heard a sports animal caller indicate the orthopedics for OU were outstanding but have also heard they are using knee surgeries they used years and years ago. Seems like any OU player that goes to the NFL and injures a knee which OU docs are using old techniques and they dont return, see Dusty Divorcheck, then it makes me wonder. Whatever Sam wants to do is Okay with me. He is a bright young man who no matter what happens at this point, he has served OU well and done an OUTSTANDING job in representing OU, this state, his home town and heritage. He has nothing to be ashamed of and I as an Oklahoman is proud of him and its VERY obvious this man has it going on to succeed in life. Sam, take care of you and yours, do what you have to do, your health is far more important than anything else. Thank you for what you have done and I wish you all the best and you do what you have to do to take care of you, not OU, not the fans, but YOU and yours. Whatever is best for you is best for me. WE love you and respect whatever decision you make. You owe us nothing but what you have given, and YOU have given.
