OU recruiting notebook: Defensive back De'Vante Harris rescinds commitment to Oklahoma

Defensive back De'Vante Harris appeared to be among the most solid of Oklahoma's commitments.

He was one of the most vocal recruiters for the Sooners since making his own choice last spring.

But Saturday, on Twitter, Harris announced he was no longer an OU commit.

“Just decommitted from the University of Oklahoma,” Harris tweeted at about 2 p.m. Saturday.

Earlier in the week another OU commit, Durron Neal, had his Twitter account hacked and some wondered whether the same had happened to Harris.

But shortly afterward, Harris had a friendly exchange with Sooners safety Tony Jefferson.

Jefferson also tweeted: “Idk if there's coaches changes or not at OU. But I wish they would tell the players. We would like to kno too! Haha.”

Sooners secondary coach Willie Martinez is reportedly a candidate for defensive coordinator openings at Kansas and Illinois.

While Harris was the Sooners' top defensive commitment, they have received a pair of pledges from defensive backs lately, in juco signee Kass Everett and in-state product Kevin Peterson.

Everett initially signed with Texas Tech but had a change of heart before filing his paperwork and signed with the Sooners.

TAPPER EXPECTS TO QUALIFY

Maryland high school defensive end Charles Tapper, who has been committed to the Sooners since October, hasn't been one of the more vocal OU commitments.

He recently spoke with Rivals affiliate MDHigh.com, though, touching on his academic status.
