2 nominated as inspirational
Laurie Sue Brockway, Beliefnet editor, said beginning in August people were encouraged to submit nominees for the annual Inspiring Person award. She said the Web site’s editors selected Capt. Katie Illingworth of Oklahoma City and Maj. Tobin Griffeth as nominees because they were impressed with their charity drive.

"I feel that it really shines a light on the compassionate hearts of the men and women who are working to defend our nation but are also working on behalf of the people of Afghanistan,” Brockway said. "It’s interesting how they took that really intense rivalry and turned it into something to help people.”

Brockway said people can go online to Beliefnet.com and vote for their favorite nominee once daily through Saturday. She said editors will choose the 2009 honoree from the three nominees who receive the most votes. The winner will be announced Wednesday.

Other nominees for the ninth annual award include Capt. Chesley "Sully” Sullenberger, the commanding pilot who safely landed U.S. Airways flight 1549 in the Hudson River, saving all 155 people aboard; actor Michael J. Fox, a celebrity activist for Parkinson’s disease; and Jill and Kevin Heinz, who turned their popular wedding dance YouTube video into a fundraising tool to fight domestic violence.
