It became The Golden Hat when it was retooled in the 1970s and changed to gold. * The State Fair of Texas donated the Golden Hat as a show of gratitude for playing the game at the Cotton Bowl. * The trophy stays in the locker room of the winning team from the previous year until the final minutes of the game. Then, it is taken onto the field for the presentation ceremony. * The trophy is already in Dallas and is on display at the State Fair of Texas.
