OU No. 1, OSU No. 8 in preseason coaches' poll

The Oklahoma football team is ranked No. 1 in the USA Today-Coaches' preseason poll, which came out Thursday.

The Sooners earned 42 out of a possible 59 first-place votes to easily earn the top spot ahead of Alabama, Oregon, LSU and Florida State, the Sooners Sept. 17 opponent.

This is the first time since 2003 that OU has been ranked No. 1 in the preseason poll. That year, the Sooners advanced to the BCS title game where they lost to LSU.

The Sooners opened their season with a 6:45 a.m. practice on Thursday.

Oklahoma State came in at No. 8 on the preseason poll, just ahead of fellow Big 12 member Texas A&M.

The Cowboys open practice Friday morning.
