OU volleyball: Sooners whip Alabama in first round of NCAA Championships

Oklahoma played No. 3-ranked Stanford late Friday night.

STANFORD, Calif. — Oklahoma advanced to the second round of the NCAA Volleyball Championships late Thursday with a 3-1 win over Alabama at Maples Pavilion on the Stanford University campus.

OU (24-7) played No. 3-ranked Stanford late Friday night. Stanford (25-5) advanced by whipping Hampton 3-0 on Thursday.

The Sooners had a season-best 18 blocks against Alabama. Sophomore setter Julia Doyle had a career-high 10, which was the first 10-block outing by an OU player since Sallie McLaurin on Sept. 17 against Tulsa.

Doyle added 49 assists for her fifth double-double of the season.

McLaurin had 19 kills and a .485 hitting percentage against the Crimson Tide (24-10). Alabama won the first set 25-20, before the Sooners won the next three 25-19, 25-19, 25-23.
