OU's David Boren not wavering on Big 12, thinks Missouri '50-50'

NORMAN – Missouri made it known Tuesday it is “exploring options” before deciding whether to commit to the Big 12 Conference.

Oklahoma president David Boren briefly responded Wednesday, surmising it is “50-50” whether MU leaves for another league – likely the Southeastern Conference.

Boren remained resolute about the viability of the Big 12, with or without the Tigers.

“We’ll be fine either way,” Boren told a handful of reporters after watching the Sooners’ football practice in advance of Saturday’s game against Texas.

Boren said the league’s expansion committee, formed a couple of weeks ago, is narrowing down targets and has “three or four good choices.” It could be ready to offer and accept invitations in “a week to 10 days.”

“We will move swiftly,” he said. “It won’t take long.”

But first Missouri has to make a decision. MU’s board voted Tuesday to grant chancellor Brady Deaton the power to make conference decisions, the same move other Big 12 schools have made in their pursuit of other leagues.

Oklahoma and Oklahoma State had their advances to the Pac-12 halted by Texas’ stubbornness about the Longhorn Network shortly after Boren and OSU president Burns Hargis were granted authority.
