NORMAN — Oklahoma was already going to have replace one of its all-conference cornerbacks.

Now, OU will have to replace both.

Tuesday, junior Dominique Franks announced he will enter the upcoming NFL Draft, which means the Sooners will be breaking in a pair of new corners in 2010.

OU’s other corner this past season, Brian Jackson, is a senior.

"We wish Dom all the best and I hope at some point that he’ll also be back to complete his degree,” coach Bob Stoops said in a statement.

Franks’ announcement came as a bit of a surprise.

Last month, he told a group of reporters that he was coming back to school for his senior season, regardless of what grade he received from the NFL’s College Advisory Committee.

"I have a lot of things to work on,” Franks said then.

But Franks appeared dead-set on leaving for the draft all along.

Franks received a second-round grade from the Advisory Committee, making it feasible that he could work his way into the late first round with a strong showing at the NFL Scouting Combine in February.

Surprisingly, Franks could become the first graduate from football powerhouse Tulsa Union High School to play in the NFL in more than 20 years. Franks was a member of Union’s 2004 and 2005 state title teams. In all, Union has won five Class 6A state titles this decade.

"We’re excited to see Dom do so well,” said Union coach Kirk Fridrich.
