Oklahoma center Gabe Ikard has earned plenty of Scholar-Athlete awards, from his time at Bishop McGuinness High School through his career with the Sooners.
Ikard earned another Thursday, when he was named one of 16 winners of the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Awards. Ikard is also a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, awarded to the top scholar-athlete in the nation.
Ikard will travel to New York City, along with the other honorees, for the 56th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 10. He will receive an $18,000 post-graduate scholarship.
Ikard graduated in May with a 4.0 grade-point average in multidisciplinary studies. He’s expressed a desire to go to medical school once his football career ends.
He’s the only winner from the Big 12 Conference.
