Watching all seven rounds of the NFL Draft pass without hearing his name called was difficult for Lendy Holmes.

Now, the ex-Oklahoma free safety is determined to prove he belongs in the NFL.

After the draft, Holmes signed a rookie free-agent contract with the Washington Redskins.

He'll report to Redskins mini-camp Thursday.

"It was real tough watching everyone passing me up," Holmes said. "There were people go above me who I've seen that were nowhere close to being better than me.

"I'm going to go out there and show what I can do and prove them wrong, prove they should've chosen me."

Holmes' agent took calls from several teams who hoped to sign him as a free agent, but in the end, Holmes felt Washington was the best fit and his best chance of making a roster.

To do that, Holmes will need to showcase his skills on special teams, where he played throughout his career in Norman.

Holmes will be joining former teammate and Sooner wide receiver Malcolm Kelly, now with the Redskins, who'll give a Holmes a friendly face in Washington.
