OU's Ryan Broyles streaks past OSU with 316 all-purpose yards

At halftime of Oklahoma's 27-0 win over Oklahoma State, Ryan Broyles had six catches for 79 yards and had returned a punt 59 yards. The rest of his team looked sluggish, despite leaving for the locker room up 10-0.

"I told them at halftime, the rest of our offense needs to play like 85," offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson said of Broyles.

Broyles didn't make it easy for his teammates to fulfill Wilson's request.

A Landry Jones fumble on a botched play at the Oklahoma State 7-yard line negated his first return, leaving the game a scoreless tie.

In the fourth quarter, Broyles decided not to leave anything up to chance.

After letting a 67-yard Quinn Sharp punt bounce over his head, Broyles snatched the ball after a soft bounce and headed left. Halfway through the return he cut back across the field with just one player to beat.

"I just didn't want to get tackled by the punter, that's never good. You never hear the end of it,'" Broyles said.

Sharp clipped Broyles heels, but it wasn't enough to send the sophomore receiver sprawling to the turf before he could cross the end zone. Broyles return put the Sooners up 27-0 and sent his audience at Owen Field into full-on rivalry victory celebration mode.

"He's really special," said Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops of the receiver, who had 316 all-purpose yards, third-most in school history. Broyles finished with 9 catches for 103 yards, burning the team he spurned three years earlier with a late de-committal days before signing with the Sooners.
