Outdoor notebook: Last Bass tournament nearing

The law firm of Lawter and Associates’ annual "Last Bass” tournament will be Nov. 15 at Eufaula Cove on Lake Eufaula.

Entry fee is $150 for the two-man team tourney with 100-percent payback. The law firm is adding an additional $4,000 to the purse.

Trout fishing begins Sunday

Trout fishing opens Sunday at the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation’s six winter-time only trout areas: Blue River, Lake Pawhuska, Lake Watonga, Robbers Cave, Quartz Mountain and Lake Carl Etling.

Rainbow trout are put in the winter-only lakes and streams every two weeks. A stocking schedule can be found on www.wildlifedepartment.com.

Goose, turkey gun season opens Saturday

Goose season opens Saturday statewide.

The first half of the season will remain open through Nov. 29. It will then close and reopen Dec. 12.

Fall gun season for turkeys also opens Saturday and runs through Nov. 20, but the season is only open in certain counties.

Maps rally Sunday

A rally to support the MAPS 3 project that will fund 50 more miles of multi-use trails in Oklahoma City will be Sunday at the new Route 66 Boathouse, located on the east side of Lake Overholser.

The boathouse will be open for tours from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Deer muzzleloader, bear seasons winding down

Sunday is the last day of deer muzzleloader season in Oklahoma.

It also is the final day of Oklahoma’s first black bear season for both archery and muzzleloaders.

As of Thursday, 17 bears had been killed by hunters in the southeastern Oklahoma counties of Pushmataha, Le Flore, Latimer and McCurtain since archery season opened Oct. 1.

State wildlife officials set a limit of 20 bears that could be killed by hunters during the season.

Sixteen bears have been taken by bow hunters in the first three weeks of archery season. Only one bear has been killed by a muzzleloader hunter since the muzzleloader season opened Oct. 24.
