NewsOK Sports 11:13 a.m. Outdoors editor Ed Godfrey will be joining us live from H&H Shooting Sports at 11:30 a.m. His guest will be Steve Levering, archery department manager for the H&H Shooting Sports Complex. Get those questions in and Ed will get started shortly.
NewsOK Sports 11:25 a.m. This is Ed. We will be starting in five minutes. Anyone with an outdoors or archery question can send them in now.
NewsOK Sports 11:35 a.m. OK, let's get started. Steve Levering is the archery department manager for H&H. I will ask the first question to get the ball rolling. Steve, I have heard that the popularity of archery has really exploded in the last few years. Is this true and what do you attribute that to?
NewsOK Sports 11:38 a.m. This is Steve. I attribute too, one, the JOAD program which is Junior Olympic Archery Development. There is a JOAD program in Oklahoma City that shoot here at H&H in the winter and at Trosper Archery Club from Eastern to Halloween. They meet every Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Tomorrow will be the last day that they shoot inside. The other one, believe it or not, is Hollywood. With the movies Hunger Games and Brave and the TV show Arrow, and believe the Walking Dead, they shoot crossbows in it. I get a lot of people in here who say they want to get a crossbow like the one in the Walking Dead.
NewsOK Sports 11:39 a.m. How much of the new interest are people who want bows for hunting and those who are shooting targets, or is there a crossover.?

NewsOK Sports 11:40 a.m. Steve: I say it is about 50-50. There is a lot of people doing it for recreation and believe it or not, stress relief. It is a physical activity. It seems to help relieve stress.
Brent F. 11:40 a.m. Is archery difficult to get into? What would I need to get started?
NewsOK Sports 11:42 a.m. Steve: If you shoot traditional archery, it is not that expensive. You can get into it for under $200. There are different levels. You can even get it a way cheaper than that depending on the age. But for an adult, $200 or a child around $100. Now if you are hunting a compound hunting bow, that is about the $350 range for the least expensive, good quality bows.
George 11:42 a.m. Do you prefer to shoot a crossbow or compound bow?
NewsOK Sports 11:43 a.m. Steve: I prefer to shoot a compound bow just because until the last four or five years you had to have a doctor's slip to hunt with a crossbow. I have been shooting 48 years so I have gotten used to using the compound bow.
NewsOK Sports 11:43 a.m. How much interest in crossbows since they were legalized for hunting in Oklahoma for everyone?
NewsOK Sports 11:45 a.m. Steve: There has been a big interest because now families are getting them. Kids who could not pull legal poundage for bow hunting are able to hunt with a crossbow. The price range of crossbows range from near $400 to $2000.
