Outdoors notebook: Another big bass comes from Arbuckle

by Ed Godfrey Published: March 23, 2013

Arbuckle Lake continues its impressive run of producing big bass this spring.

Last weekend, J.D. Kent of Durant landed a 13.86-pound largemouth bass that is the 15th-largest ever caught in Oklahoma, according to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation's top 20 largemouth bass list.

The fish was caught using a Jewel Bait HC finesse football jig and a Yum Craw Papi as a trailer on a hump with a deep creek channel swing nearby.

The fish allowed Kent and his son, K.D., to win the Red River Bass Club tournament with a total bag of 22.4 pounds.

Oklahoma's spring youth turkey season will be Saturday and March 31. The youth season is open to hunters ages 17 and younger.

The spring youth season is open statewide except in southeastern Oklahoma, which will have its youth season on April 20-21.

Spring turkey season opens April 6 statewide except in the eight counties in far southeastern Oklahoma, where the opener will be on April 22.

Turkey season ends statewide on May 6.

A free hunter's education clinic is scheduled Saturday at the Tri-City Gun Club in Goldsby.

Sponsored by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation and the Tri-City Gun Club, the clinic begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m.
