Outdoors notebook: Bass trail looking for anglers

Backwater Bass'n is seeking new members for its bass tournament trail this season.

Lakes where tournaments are scheduled for the 2013 season include Arbuckle, Murray, Texoma, Eufaula, Sardis, Konawa and Sooner.

Check stations must be online next hunting season

Beginning in the 2013-14 hunting season, all check stations across Oklahoma will have electronic checking, said Alan Peoples, chief of the wildlife division at the Oklahoma Department of Conservation.

The days of checking in a deer and recording it by hand in a book will be a thing of the past, he said.

“A lot of them (check stations) already have got a computer an Internet access,” Peoples said. “Next year all deer check stations will be online so the department will know immediately the deer harvest numbers as they come in.”

About half of the deer hunters now are using the online check station at www.wildlifedepartment.com, he said.

C'mon down, ducks!

Duck season has pretty much been a bust so far in Oklahoma but it could get much better with the anticipated cold front.

“Duck season has been hit and miss because of the warm weather and lack of significant fronts to push them down,” Peoples said. “We may get our first good push of birds into Oklahoma with the cold front that is forecast.
