An organizational meeting will be held at Lucky Lures in Oklahoma City. For more information, contact Jeff Joslin at 370-7702 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Check stations must be online next hunting season
Beginning in the 2013-14 hunting season, all check stations across Oklahoma will have electronic checking, said Alan Peoples, chief of the wildlife division at the Oklahoma Department of Conservation.
The days of checking in a deer and recording it by hand in a book will be a thing of the past, he said.
“A lot of them (check stations) already have got a computer an Internet access,” Peoples said. “Next year all deer check stations will be online so the department will know immediately the deer harvest numbers as they come in.”
About half of the deer hunters now are using the online check station at www.wildlifedepartment.com, he said.
C'mon down, ducks!
Duck season has pretty much been a bust so far in Oklahoma but it could get much better with the anticipated cold front.
“Duck season has been hit and miss because of the warm weather and lack of significant fronts to push them down,” Peoples said. “We may get our first good push of birds into Oklahoma with the cold front that is forecast.
“Production estimates were outstanding up north so we know there are a lot of them up there. We just need them to come down.
“When they start migrating, we should get a lot of them coming through Oklahoma. Some of our millet seeded areas are really good this time and should hold good numbers of birds on the big water (lakes).”
