Outdoors notebook: Big cash for big bass

Lake Fork, the big bass lake in east Texas that is visited by many Oklahomans, begins its second annual "Bounty Bonanza” on Thursday.

The big bass fishing tournament continues through Sept. 30, 2010.

Cash prizes of $500 are being offered for largemouth bass that exceed 13 pounds or greater to $100,000 for a world record.

Other prizes including $1,000 for the first bass weighing 9.99 pounds; $10,000 for exceeding the weight of the 50{+t}{+h} largest bass in Texas; $25,000 for catching the 10{+t}{+h} largest Texas bass and $50,000 for a state record.

Fee to enter the tournament is $20. The tournament is sponsored by the Lake Fork Area Chamber of Commerce.

Ex-director honored
Nature Works, a Tulsa-based conservation group, is holding an appreciation luncheon Tuesday for Greg Duffy, who retired in July after 16 years as state wildlife director.

The luncheon will begin at noon at Sportsman’s Country Club, 4001 NW 39{+t}{+h} in Oklahoma City.

The public is invited. Tickets are $20 at the door.
