Outdoors notebook: It's gobbling time

Spring turkey season opens Sunday except in the eight counties in southeastern Oklahoma, where turkey season opens April 21.

Hunters may take up to three toms during the season, but some counties have a one or two tom limit. The hunting season runs through May 6.

Free hunters education clinic for youth

The Tri-City Gun Club is holding a free hunters education clinic Saturday at its gun range near Goldsby.

The clinic will be from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. for ages 10 and older. Pre-registration is required online at

Sporting Clay shoot for Miracle Network

The Edmond Kiwanis Club will sponsor its third annual “Aiming for Miracles” Sporting Clay shoot April 25 at Silverleaf Shotgun Sports near Guthrie.

Money raised from the event will be donated to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. The funds will support the Children's Hospital Foundation's efforts to fund pediatric research and clinical care for sick children in Oklahoma.

Entry fees are $600 for a team of four or $150 for each individual competitor. There also will be a silent auction and raffle at the event.

Overholser, Stinchcomb clean-up on Saturday

Saturday will be the annual clean-up day of Lake Overholser and the Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge.

Volunteers should meet at the Overholser Pavilion at 8:30 a.m. Workers will be treated to lunch after the morning clean-up.
