Professional angler and outdoors celebrity Jimmy Houston will be making an appearance Friday at Bass Pro Shops in Bricktown.
The longtime television show host from Cookson will be speaking and greeting guests beginning at 6 p.m. as part of the store's “Crappie Madness” weekend.
In addition to Houston, members of the Bass Pro Shops staff — John Lurray and Keith Owens — will be conducting crappie fishing seminars during the weekend.
Seminars are scheduled at 7 p.m. on Friday and 1 and 5 p.m. on Saturday.
HUNTERS CAN GET THEIR DEER SCORED AT SHOW
Hunters with outstanding deer from the recent hunting season can have their trophy displayed on the Whitetail Wall of Fame at the Backwoods Hunting and Fishing Expo.
Official Boone & Crockett and Pope & Young scorers from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation will be scoring deer at the show, scheduled Feb. 28-March 2 at the state fairgrounds.
Hunters interested in having their trophy deer on display should call Dale Welchel at (405) 641-1900 or Ron Owens at (405) 681-1333. A deer must score at least 160 to be eligible for the Whitetail Wall of Fame.
ONE GOOSE SEASON ENDS, BUT ANOTHER BEGINS
Oklahoma's regular goose hunting season ends Feb. 16, but hunters can participate in the special Conservation Order Light Goose season that begins on Feb. 17.
Hunters must register at www.wildlifedepartment.com to participate in the special season, which has no daily possession limits on light geese (snow, blues and Ross).
Hunters also can use electronic calls and unplugged shotguns during the special season.
Shooting hours are extended for the season, which runs through March 30, to a half-hour after sunset.
