Do you have any information about the quail population in Oklahoma and how they're doing. I know in previous years it seemed the quail were dwindling in numbers.
Quail are heading in the wrong direction. The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation does roadside counts in August and October but I am not expecting a very good report. It may be time for the Wildlife Department to close quail season for a year or two. I know the biologists say closing the season will not help rebuild population because quail live such a short time anyway, but it couldn't hurt. I am hearing a lot of support for the idea from quail hunters. The Wildlife Department wants to allow hunters to hunt the few birds that are out there.
