Outgoing state House speaker takes post with nonprofit

Outgoing state House Speaker Kris Steele has been named executive director of The Education and Employment Ministry. Steele, R-Shawnee, could not seek re-election this year because of 12-year legislative term limits. His term expires Tuesday. Steele will join the interfaith nonprofit organization Nov. 26. The Rev. Tony Zahn, the organization's executive director, will serve as executive director emeritus. TEEM, since being founded in 1987, has served and helped about 12,000 people and families in Oklahoma. Its mission is to reduce poverty, homelessness and unemployment in Oklahoma. At no charge, it provides education, social services, and job training and placement so students are able to become self-sufficient.
