The Outlet Shoppes at Oklahoma City plans to build an additional 30,835 square feet of retail space to its shopping center at Interstate 40 and Council Road.

Mall owner and developer Horizon Group Properties Inc. applied for a building permit this week with Oklahoma City for construction of the new retail space, valued at $1.5 million.

Gina Slechta, spokeswoman for Horizon Group, confirmed that the mall was gearing up for further expansion, but said the details of the project have yet to be formally announced.

This will be the third phase of expansion for the Outlet Shoppes since the 348,000 square-foot mall opened to the public in August 2011.

The outlet mall added an additional 28,000 square feet of retail space in 2012 that included a Columbia Sports and Ann Taylor Loft, and other shops at the center.

The new addition will bring the total size of the mall to 407,435 square feet.

The mall opened 100 percent leased and has consistently beat sales projections. From August 2012 through May 2013, Outlet Shoppes sales topped $106.6 million, according to the Oklahoma City Economic Development Trust.
