NORMAN — An autopsy has found that an inmate found dead in the Cleveland County jail earlier this year died of a drug overdose.

The Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office said Wednesday that 36-year-old Rebekah Reed of Oklahoma City died of acute drug toxicity. The report says Reed’s death was an accident caused by an overdose of a prescription drug and alcohol.

A local newspaper reports the autopsy cites amitriptyline, a drug that treats depression, as causing the overdose.

Reed had been picked up by Moore police on Feb. 22 on a failure to appear warrant. She was booked in the county jail that night and was found unresponsive in her cell at 4:30 a.m. on Feb. 23.

Authorities say she was taken to Norman Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
