Owasso tight end Cameron Oliver looking for an opportunity close to home

SUPER 30 — Louisiana-Monroe, Memphis, New Mexico, Ohio, and Rutgers have all offered scholarships to the 6-foot-4, 235-pound tight end. The only problem, all of those schools are at least 400 miles away from home.

“I went to a camp at Arkansas this summer. They've recruited me a lot. I ran a (40-yard dash) in 4.76 there, so for a tight end I had pretty good speed. I pulled my hamstring right after that, and I didn't get to compete the rest of the day. I was pretty bummed about that, but their tight ends coach (Barry Lunney Jr.) has stayed in touch and wants me to come back.”

Oliver lists Arkansas, along with Kansas State, as one of the schools that would be tough to turn down if an offer is extended.

“If I got an Arkansas offer that would be pretty cool and it'd be an option closer to home,” Oliver said. “K-State is one of those places too, that if I got an offer from, I might commit on the phone before the call is over.”

Wherever he ends up, he'll be bringing with him a complete skill set for the tight end position. The Rams used him primarily as a blocker in his junior season, but he proved to be an explosive receiving option while averaging 23.3 yards per catch.

“All tight ends in their minds think they're receivers,” Oliver said with a laugh. “So I think of myself as a receiver, but that's not any sort of slight to my blocking.”
