Panama, OK, soldier killed in Afghanistan attack

Spc. Robert A. Pierce, 20, of Panama, OK, died when his unit was attacked by a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device, according to a Defense Department release. Another soldier, 2nd Lt. Justin L. Sisson, 23, of Phoenix, was also killed in the attack.

An Oklahoma soldier was one of two men killed Monday in Afghanistan after they were attacked with an improvised explosive device, according to the Department of Defense.

Spc. Robert Allan Pierce, 20, of Panama, died when his unit was attacked by a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device in Tsamkani, Afghanistan, according to a Fort Campbell release. Another soldier, 2nd Lt. Justin L. Sisson, 23, of Phoenix, also was killed in the attack.

They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

Pierce joined the Army in April 2011, serving in South Korea before arriving at Fort Campbell in August 2012. His Army awards include a Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, according to the military's news release.

Pierce is survived by his wife, Christian M. Pierce, of Huntington, Ark., and his parents, Randy R. Pierce, of Panama, and Lonnetta R. Dart, of Hartford, Ark.
