Panathinaikos announced Tuesday that the 57-year-old Gonzalez will replace the Argentine-born Juan Ramon Rocha, but said details would be revealed later this week.

Gonzalez, who has led second-division clubs in Spain, is the third coach appointed at the Athens club since mid-November following Rocha and Jesualdo Ferreira of Portugal.

Panathinaikos is ninth in the 16-team league, 22 points behind fierce rival and defending champion Olympiakos.
