The parents of a man shot and killed by former Del City police Capt. Randy Trent Harrison are suing him, the city and the police department over the man's death, civil court records show.

The plaintiffs, Dane G. Scott Sr. and Deloise Dockins, seek damages to be determined by a jury in excess of $75,000.

The suit makes nine claims, among them excessive force, wrongful death and civil rights violations.

Dane Scott Jr., 18, had been disarmed when he was fatally shot by Harrison following a police chase and crash on March 14, 2012, that ended near Interstate 35 on SE 15.

Harrison, 48, was convicted Nov. 26 of first-degree manslaughter in Oklahoma County District Court. His sentencing is set for Wednesday.

The suit, filed in federal court, alleges that Del City police did nothing to alter Harrison's conduct when it was common knowledge in the department that Scott was being singled out for investigation.

Based upon that knowledge, the plaintiffs claim that Harrison's conduct should have required disciplinary action.
