Party: Gayle and Barney Semtner entertained at a backyard barbecue dinner honoring their son-in-law and author, Daniel Vaughn, and daughter, Jennifer Vaughn, of Dallas. Vaughn has written a book titled “The Prophets of Smoked Meats — A Journey Through Texas Barbecue.” The book, which tells how to identify good barbecue and has recipes for meat rubs, was launched in New York City with chef, author and television personality Anthony Bourdain. A question-and-answer session was held at Barnes and Noble.
At dinner: In keeping with the barbecue theme, the Semtners featured a huge array of barbecued chicken, turkey, brisket and jalapeno sausage, along with coleslaw, baked beans, potato salad, brownies, lemon squares and cookies. Jamie Bramble played the guitar during dinner. Bouquets of roses, daisy mums and peonies were on tables inside and outside the house.
Success story: Vaughn autographed books for guests.

Birthday luncheon: Bette MacKellar celebrated her birthday with a summer luncheon at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club. Hostesses were Janie Axton, Barbara Beeler, Sue Goodman and Jayne Henline.
Tables: Cloths were mint green, and napkins were pink. Bouquets of pink roses and peonies decorated the tables.
Dessert: The entire lunch was tasty, but the dessert, a chocolate mousse ball, was birthday worthy!

WRAPPING IT UP
Wrap party: Director Kyle Roberts welcomed dozens of people involved with the production of his film “The Posthuman Project” to a wrap party at the Paramount, 701 W Sheridan. Roberts, a NewsOK videographer, shot “The Posthuman Project” in locations around the state. The Oklahoman's Features Editor Matthew Price and Los Angeles-based comics writer Sterling Gates, originally of Tulsa, wrote the script.
The buzz: The film and web series is a story about teenagers who developed super powers on a rock-climbing trip.
Program: Roberts presented awards to cast and crew members and then showed the trailer. It was followed by a scene cut from the film.
HONORING ELLEN AND BILL
Event: Ellen Schlachter and Bill Jackson were honorees at a couple's wedding shower in the home of Janie and Jon Axton. The engaged couple will be married in August in Dallas. Co-hosts were the Axtons, Bev and Paul Kanaly, Laura and Bob Gary, Gina and Jerry Ellis, Patti and Rick Ruffin, Donna and Bill Bozalis and Sara and Rob Northwood.
Cocktails and dinner: The guests had dinner and drinks on the Axton's terrace.

Menu: Sliders and chicken kabobs were served along with cupcakes, grilled peaches and ice cream.

SUMMER KICKOFF PARTY
Occasion: Suzy Gibson invited her friends to a Wine and Palate Party at the Greens Country Club.
Paints: Stillwater's Art on 6th provided paints and guests painted a colorful summer scene.
Decor/menu: Table decorations featured hibiscus topiary trees wrapped in raffia ribbon and hibiscus-colored tablecloths. Beach balls, flip-flops and bud vases with flowers were around the room. Vegetables and dips, cheese and fruit and berries were served, along with flip-flop and beach ball sugar cookies.
Takeaway treats: Party favors were drink koozies decorated with flowers, feathers and ribbons filled with bubble gum coins and flip-flop swirl pops.

HATS OFF TO THE SEASON
Luncheon: Cindy Raby was hostess for an end-of-the-year luncheon for the Oklahoma City Orchestra League and the Symphony Show House boards in the home and gardens of Sharon Shelton. Some of the guests wore summer hats.
Event: There was an opening reception at Artspace at Unititled for the exhibition “UnBound: 3D Printmaking.” Attending were 300 guests. Participating artists Laura Berman, Curtis Jones, Tim Dooley and Aaron Wilson discussed their work. Curtis Jones curated the exhibition.
Artwork: The exhibition features the work of seven 3D printmakers including Berman, Dooley, Wilson, John Hitchcock, Emily Arthur, Jenny Schmid and Jones and will be on view through Aug. 17.
