The beautiful home of Fanny and Don Bolen was the setting for a dinner and shower honoring Carter Samis and Fred Fellers III.

Twinkle lights decorated the backyard, where the tables were covered with bright orange and hot pink tablecloths and set with pink and orange centerpieces.

Because the engaged couple will be married in November in Charleston, S.C., the hosts served a Southern menu. Guests enjoyed chicken with bacon and jalapenos, rice and okra, shrimp remoulade, Vidalia onion tart, chive biscuits, sweet potato biscuits and fruit cobblers.

It was also Carter's birthday, so the menu included a large coconut birthday cake.

Sherry and Jerry Cash were co-hosts. Among the guests were Leslie and Larry Regens, Laurie and Charlie Givens, Susan and Ramsey Drake, Kent Potter, Joanne and Harrison Smith, Clay Smith, Kathy and John Griffin, Drew Hoffman, Mollie Bennett, Laura and Austin Kirkpatrick, Cindy and John Heatly, Brian Kelley, Jordan Kidd, John Kennedy, Cindy Thompson, Linda and Ron James, and Lisa and Mark Pierce.

TWICE THE FUNJane Hamm, 18, and Hilary Hamm, 15, celebrated their birthdays in rockin' birthday party style.

Their party invitation was a rock magazine cover featuring the two sisters with a steel guitar. Guests wore VIP passes around their necks for admittance to the party, which was in the Grand Ballroom of the Skirvin Hotel. A leopard carpet marked the entrance to the hotel.

The band was The Maine. The band played as everyone took to the lighted dance floor. The pop punk band members, from Phoenix, Ariz., had a great time, too. They posed for pictures and signed autographs during the party. A disc jockey played the first two hours of the event.

There were lighted tables and chairs in the ballroom, which was arranged like a New York lounge with sofas, an oxygen bar, two photo booths and lighted coffee and smoothie bars. Orange, lime green and hot pink Gerber daisies were on the tables.

A big screen featured videos, and all the people who came into the room were shown as they arrived.

A huge birthday cake shaped like an electric guitar was served, and the 200 guests, mostly students from Casady school, received party favor T-shirts.

SAIL ON BY • Katy and Robert McGee were honorees at a dinner and baby shower in the home of Ranell and Steve Brown.

Co-hosts were Becky and Jim Buchanan, Peggy Burris, Jane and Sandy Elliott, Judy Ferguson, Kathy and Tim Knott, Bette and Jim MacKellar, Marty and Robert Margo, Dianne and Denny Meacham, Linda and Joe Mideke, Karren and Phil Napier, Linda Steinhorn, Sandy and Jon Trudgeon, and Jeannie and Dennis Wolfe.

The hosts gave the couple a wooden cradle with bedding and a picture frame signed by guests. In the cradle was a teddy bear wearing a monogrammed sailor hat. The baby is due in November.

The party invitation featured a sailboat with a red sail since the baby's room will have a nautical theme.

Among the guests were Betty and Bud Townsend, Sharon Jett, Nancy and Terry Jones, Chris and Jidge Verity, Austin and Gavin Gordon, Jane and Walt Joyce, Jill and Joe Strunk, Leslie and Drew Schwartz, Candy and Haven Mankin, Barbara and Alan Hollingsworth, Julie Mullins, Ann and Tom and Nancy Flesher, Julie and Guy Bramble, Jay Ferguson, Kristen Bramble, Brian Ferguson, Sally and Ed Stringer, Debbie and Bubba Symes, Nancy and Kim Kimberling, Emily and Jeff Blake, Jamie and Dan Reineke, Paula and Neil Glass, and Christa and John Chain.

NORMAN CELEBRATESNorman Wilks celebrated his 80th birthday in Taos, N.M., during the Labor Day weekend. His birthday was May 12, but he and his friends, who meet monthly for lunch, decided that the group would wait until August to party.

The first night, the group had dinner in the mountains at the Stakeout Restaurant. Hosts were Karen and Herb Klontz, Peggy and John Crawford, Pat Snyder, and Nancy and Les Conner.

The next day was a Mexican luncheon at Rancho Plaza Grill. Hosts were Olive and Gerry Austin, Randy Floyd, Michael Smith and Florence Birdwell.

That night, the group had dinner at Lambert's Restaurant. The hosts were Marion and Atlee Vernon, Betty Bradley and Ed Huycke.

The last day, Betty and Norris Price hosted a brunch in their home in Valle Escondido. Co-hosts were Katy and Jim Davis, Joan Gilmore and Al McLaughlin.

Additional guests included Margaret and Jim Foley, Susan Vernon and Natalie Vernon.

During each party, a special tribute was given for the honoree. At the final party, Wilks gave tributes to his friends.

LINDA'S ARTLinda Bowles celebrated the hanging of her art show at La Baguette. Wine and hors d'oeuvres were served at a reception. The show titled "Art a la Mode” will be on display until Oct. 31.
